Little Whisps Family Daycare - About Us

A Little About Me…

We are very cleverly located right on Saunderson Drive in Elmvale Acres, very close to CHEO and the General Campus of the Ottawa Hospital.
I have been running a daycare from my home for more than 20 years, in Canada and the UK where I was trained. I did run a fully licensed home daycare in southern England (home daycares are regulated and licensed to qualified persons in the UK), which was regulated by the UK education watchdog, OFSTED. My provision was regularly inspected for safety, with a formal report written and published on the quality of care I provided.
In the UK I had been teaching as a University lecturer and I had also been teaching French at the local Infant School (4-6yr olds) once a week for six years when I decided to become a Childminder. I have studied on an MA on Nutrition in the western world as well as little known toxins found in our food and in our homes. I have a subject specific diploma in Homebased Childcare, as well as comprehensive Policies & Procedures, full documentation of Risk Assessments and portfolio with credentials, qualifications, insurance, security and Health & Safety documents.
I was a member of the National Childminder’s Association of Britain, which is the representing body of all registered and licensed providers in the UK, as well as the Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years (PACEY). First Aid/CPR qualified as well as Criminal Records Bureau checks.

I chose to be a Childminder initially so that I could be home for my young children but now that they are grown I couldn’t imagine doing anything else!

As part of my Diploma in Homebased Childcare I have taken courses on Safeguarding Children, Risk Assessment for Home Provisions, Physical, Social & Emotional Development, Knowledge & Understanding of the World, Physical Development, Communication, Language & Literacy, Creative Development, Problem Solving and Numeracy and Speech Therapy. I have worked with some special needs children ranging from autistic, selective mutes, behavioural issues and learning delays.

Physical activity is also extremely important and great emphasis is placed on outdoor play, but when inclement weather makes this impossible, indoor equipment is on hand. Maintaining a solid rest routine is paramount to ensure that the time you have with your children after pick-up is not impeded by being over tired and your nighttime sleep is not unnecessarily interrupted by a wakeful little one.

Permission documents are provided to you for your signature and approval so that you have control over every aspect of the care in this setting. I also consider it part of my job description to ensure that you can meet your work commitments and I do take this very seriously.

I receive regular updates from the CCPRN (the Childcare Provider’s Network), keeping me abreast of the latest resources available to continually improve the level of care and education provided.

This is bilingual, screen-free, pet friendly home. If allergies are a concern, please be aware beforehand.

Thank-you
